Phone Detox

I want to talk about a specific device that majority of us humans have and the impact it can have towards our health.

Let’s dive deeper into the cost and problems cell phones can cause towards our health and day to day life

Cell phones are essential to communicating with others and keeping track and up to date to current events, family emergencies, alerts, long distance relatives and friends. And that is the main argument when it comes to having your phone on you so that In case of any emergency we can get in touch with 911 and our loved ones which is yes completely understandable! But besides using it for emergencies how much of our phone time can soon become too much and cause health related problems.

As we all know cell phones aren’t just about texting and calling it also has social media apps such as instagram, TikTok, youtube, etc. it can become addicting quickly. You begin to start checking your phone every second of everyday and sometimes you don’t even realize why your checking your phone in the first place. Or that feeling you get when you get a notification and you jump to check your phone. Your body starts to adapt to that small amount of dopamine you get when your scrolling on social media or checking your notifications. But that feeling quickly fades and your left feeling empty so you go back to your phone again and again and it starts to become this repeated cycle that can be hard to come out of. It stunts brain growth and your attention span and it can even cause our communication skills to deplete. And because our communication skills are depleting It leaves people using their phones as a way to avoid social interactions.

So what do we do to reverse the damage that phones are causing. Well.. It starts with self control, and as humans we have the ability to turn our phones off and on and it honestly just takes a level of self control.

Challenge yourself,

A way that I challenged myself is by only using my phone when I need to call or text someone and then put my phone away when Im done. I limited myself to an hour a day of screen time after I accomplished my tasks. I also didn’t use my phone an hour prior to bed and an hour after waking up to help with my sleep levels. And I did this for 2 weeks straight and the difference it made was amazing. Not to mention when you start using your phone less you start to become more aware of the world around you which is so important in this day in age where technology is everywhere.

Challenge yourself to only using your phone to call and text people and put your social media apps into one folder to help not feel more inclined to want to press on the app. And try not using your phone at least an hour before going to bed and after waking up. By doing this your helping your cortisol levels and melatonin levels and making sure your getting the best sleep that you can get !
